Description
Weber Skim Coat is a high-performance rendering putty designed for thin-layer application (typically 0.5 mm to 2 mm thickness) on both interior and exterior vertical surfaces. Formulated using high-grade cement or synthetic resins, premium mineral fillers, and chemical admixtures, it corrects imperfections like pinholes, air bubbles, and sand roughness on raw concrete or plastered substrates. It acts as a durable, highly compatible base layer that improves paint adhesion and reduces overall paint consumption.
- Chemical Composition: Available in cement-based powder forms (requires mixing with water) or ready-to-use acrylic paste forms.
- Appearance: Ultra-fine powder or smooth paste available in Grey or White.
- Application Thickness: Optimal structural thickness ranges between 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm per coat.
- Bulk Density: Approximately 1.2 g/ml (Powder) / Paste Density of ~1.65 g/ml.
- Wet Mix Pot Life: Around 1 hour at 20°C once mixed with water.
- Material Consumption: Approximately 1.5 kg/m² per 1 mm of thickness.
- Fire Resistance: Achieves premium classification ratings (e.g., Class A1 or A2-s1, d0 per EN standards)
- Perfect Paint Ready Finish: Completely masks sand roughness, fine web cracks, and blowholes to provide a glass-smooth surface that sands down effortlessly.
- Exceptional Adhesion: Modified with synthetic resins to deliver excellent bonding strength directly onto porous concrete, blocks, blockwork, or base plasters.
- Weather & Climate Resistance: Engineered to expand and contract with temperature variations without peeling, flaking, or cracking.
- Sag and Shrinkage Free: High workability prevents the compound from shrinking or sagging on vertical walls and ceilings during application.
- Labor and Time Efficient: Easy to trowel manually or apply via spray plaster machines for fast, large-scale commercial installation.
- Thickness Limitations: It cannot be used as a thick leveling plaster; applying it beyond its recommended 2 mm limit will cause internal stress cracking and failure.
- Not for Flooring: Engineered strictly for vertical walls and overhead ceilings; it lacks the compressive/abrasion resistance required for pedestrian traffic floors.
- No Immersion Use: Not formulated to withstand continuous water saturation or hydrostatic pressure, making it unsuitable for swimming pools or water tanks.
- Coating Substrate Barriers: Cannot be applied directly over anti-alkalinity primers, glossy paints, or glazed surfaces without applying a specialized concrete bonding bridge first.
- Hot Weather Curing Required: Cementitious versions require damp curing (misting with water) for 2 days in hot, dry environments to prevent the mix from drying out too fast and chalking
